Steven and Virginie

We are pleased to announce that the renowned professors of Lindy Hop, Steven Mitchell and Virginie Jensen, will be in Toronto the weekend of February 19 – 21, 2010. Steven and Virginie’s scholarly classes will take your dancing to the next level, whether you want to work on your basics or refine the nitty-gritty of your technique.

Steven Mitchell

Steven Mitchell

Steven Mitchell started his dance career by studying Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Ballroom and Hip Hop in both Los Angeles and New York. He started Lindy Hoppin / Swing Dancing 1978/1979 together with his partner Erin Stevens. They worked with Al Minns in New York 1982, and brought Frankie Manning out of retirement in 1986 by working together with him. Since then he has been at the forefront of the lindy hop scene by teaching and performing non-stop around the world.

Virginie has over 20 years of dance experience that includes Jazz, Classical Ballroom, Swing, Ballet. She attended Laoust Ballet School, Franketti School of Dance, Harlem School of Classical Ballroom and Arcadance School where she worked on many dance performances.
She began teaching Ballet and Ballroom at the age of 16, and has performed Ballroom and Jazz professionaly for several years. She is also the winner of numerous dancing awards in France.
Virginie began teaching Lindy Hop in 1997, and in 1999 paired up with Steven Mitchell to teach full-time internationally. Known for her unique style, spinning and connection, Virginie draws from her extensive dance experience to teach grace, frame and flash to the followers.

William Doo Auditorium

The Saturday and Sunday daytime workshops will be held at the William Doo Auditorium on the University of Toronto campus.  The address is 45 Willcocks Street (south of Harbord, east of Spadina) in the New College building.  Look for the auditorium in the basement level.

The Dovercourt House

The Friday and Saturday evening dances and the Saturday beginner evening classes will be at The Dovercourt House, located at 805 Dovercourt Road (north of Bloor Street).

The Imperial Pub

The Sunday night social dance will be held at The Imperial Pub, 1st floor in the “Back of Ye Pub”, located at 54 Dundas St. E (one block east of Dundas TTC station).

Registration Information

Full weekend registration is limited to just 45 leaders and 45 followers to ensure that each participant benefits from an intimate learning environment. Students must enroll and be paid in full before attendance can be confirmed. Please note that the dances are not included in any of the workshop packages.
